A 50ft 1986 Mike Heywood 2 berth traditional stern narrowboat.
Built in 1986, this charming narrowboat was designed and furnished in a style which honours the traditions of working boats from centuries ago. Having been cared for by the current owners since originally constructed, this beautiful floating home really is something out of the ordinary.
Pace has been treated to lots of TLC in recent years, notably including a bronze bearing on the tiller base (2021), fresh hull blacking and new Boat Safety Certificate(2024), a Morco propane water heater, and a coat of exterior paint.
From the stern, steps lead down to a classic 'boatman's cabin' where working families would have lived, eaten and slept in the days of cargo-carrying on the canals. To the left is a antique 'Belle Portable' stove (ornamental only - not bolted together), and to the right an extensive seating area. Solid wood panels fold down to create a dining table and also a traditional 'bed hole' providing a double bed.
Moving through the boat, a 1946 Petter diesel engine is on proud display in the engine room, ventilated by side hatches to both sides. This has recently been rebuilt and has less than 50 engine hours.
A walk-through bathroom makes optimum use of the space available, and contains a sizeable corner bath, porta-potti toilet, washbasin and various storage cupboards.
Finally, there is an open plan galley and saloon area. The galley features tiled worktops, sink and drainer, freestanding oven, under-counter fridge and ample storage cupboards. In the saloon you will find a fully functioning antique French Charleville Deville solid fuel stove c1895.
Steps lead onto the bow deck which is fitted with a pram hood.
