Esme

Esme is a charming 38ft traditional stern narrowboat, built in 1989 by M & N Boat Builders. She has a wonderfully cheerful exterior, painted in bold red and deep forest green with cream coachlines. At the bow, a matching dark‑green cratch cover adds both style and practical sheltered space.

Stepping aboard through the stern doors, you enter the galley, which is well laid out and equipped for comfortable cruising. It includes a four‑burner gas hob, separate oven and grill, a sink with drainer, a fridge, and a pleasing amount of worktop and cupboard space.

Moving forward, the dinette provides a spot to eat or relax and can be converted into a single berth when needed. Beyond this is the bedroom, which benefits from a fixed double bed with storage underneath. An attractive ornate glass porthole brings in both light and character.

The bathroom is simple and functional, offering a curtain‑screened shower, cassette toilet, and wash basin.

At the front of the boat is a cosy cabin featuring a solid‑fuel stove, creating a warm and inviting space that works perfectly as a snug or reading den, especially in cooler weather. The boat also has central heating throughout, offering comfort all year round.

While the interior would benefit from some updating, Esme is fully usable as she stands and provides an ideal opportunity for someone to personalise the space to their own taste. With her compact length, traditional charm, and warm atmosphere, she would make a lovely first boat or an easy, enjoyable cruiser for weekends away.
